AVLI's Summer Teaching Institute
Schooling experiences are and should be expressions of love for learners and love of learning. What then are the implications of online teaching and learning, of face-to-face classroom teaching and learning, in this context of love?
Successful students tend to be ones who exhibit high levels of functioning in some very specific skill sets. In other words, they possess some very specific gifts. These include the ability to set goals, to persevere, to take good notes, to reflect on their learning, and to apply content to their own lives, just to name a few. But at what point are these gifts actually GIVEN to students? Do we assume these are gifts they are born with? What if we could deliberately GIVE these gifts to every single student through our teaching? What kind of potential would we be unlocking? AVLI's Summer Teaching Institute focuses on how teachers can intentionally integrate crucial skill development into any discipline using strong and strategic communication, engagement, and assessment strategies.
The pre-Institute Online Preparation experiences, the on-site interactions, and the subsequent facilitator-participant dialogs will all guide teachers through the hard work of implementing concrete practices which elevate either an online or a brick-and-mortar course from mere exchanges of content to a loving and active giving of lasting gifts.
This multi-level experience offers a unique opportunity to meet with colleagues and find inspiration in a retreat-style atmosphere. The Institute gives teachers the time and space to expand on ideas and develop concrete plans to bring back to the classroom for immediate use. Teacher-participants will come away as more skillful, more inspired, and more motivated allies in their school's educational mission.

Come pursue teaching excellence under the big skies of Texas.
You know your discipline and have created a first-rate curriculum. Now it's time to engage, communicate, and assess with intention.
It may be the most helpful week in my teaching career.
Shout-Out for the Design
The schedule was perfect, I cannot stop telling my teaching friends about it. The fact that sessions were short and focused and then followed by plenty of time to work, was so refreshing.
To be in a room with other teachers honestly sharing our classroom experiences and purposely creating valuable curriculum was just what I needed. Thank you for creating the space and time to make this possible.
