Course Description
This course includes an in-depth analysis of plane, solid, and coordinate geometry as they relate to both abstract mathematical concepts as well as real-world problem situations. Topics include logic and proof, parallel lines and polygons, perimeter and area analysis, volume and surface area analysis, similarity and congruence, trigonometry, and analytic geometry. Emphasis will be placed on developing critical thinking skills as they relate to logical reasoning and argument.
Students are required to have a compass and a protractor. In addition, although some lessons will include demonstrations using the TI-84 Plus CE (Color Edition) or TI-84 Plus graphing calculator, you are not required to have a TI-84 graphing calculator but you are required to have at least a scientific
calculator such as a TI-30 which has the buttons “sin”, “cos” and “tan”.
This course has an estimated time commitment of 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday for 8 weeks.
