  • TEACHER OPPORTUNITIES | Arrupe Virtual Learning Institute

We are looking for content experts, but more importantly, teachers who recognize that this content does not exist in a box. Rather, it is a pathway for students to better understand and appreciate the world around them. TEACHER OPPORTUNITIES We're looking for a particular brand of teacher. Of course we are looking for content experts. More importantly, though, we are looking for teachers who recognize that this content does not exist in a box. Rather, it is a pathway for students to better understand and appreciate the world around them. We want teachers who are passionate about the profession, particularly within the Catholic context. Teachers who are learners themselves and who want to be part of a collegial community focused on the betterment of pedagogical practice. We want tinkerers. Teachers who are never quite satisfied with the status quo. Reflective teachers who see calculated innovation as a means of better serving students. Lastly, we want teachers who value young people. Who recognize the power and importance of adult accompaniment as students imperfectly negotiate their learning within the context of life’s challenges. AVLI gives its teachers the tools and resources to develop highly innovative courses. This keeps teachers engaged and enthusatic about their own subject, allowing them to evolve and refine their expression as an educator and resulting in an infinitely more meaningful and enjoyable experience for students. Taiko Haessler, PhD, AVLI Teacher What it takes to be an AVLI teacher. The primary objective of teaching for AVLI is to utilize robust communication, engagement, and assessment strategies in crafting and delivering the best possible learning experience for our students. AVLI teachers are passionate about their discipline and innovative in their teaching methods. They are responsible for designing and delivering online courses to be housed within the AVLI learning management system (LMS) that incorporate engaging learning experiences using both synchronous and asynchronous means as well as a variety of online tools. • Astronomy: An Introduction | Arrupe Virtual Learning Institute

This is a semester-long introductory elective course which may be applied as a Science credit. Astronomy: An Introduction Course Dates : Jan. 14 - May 7, 2027 Eligibility : Juniors and Seniors Course Listing : Science Approximate Resources Cost : $15 WHAT TO EXPECT < ALL COURSES Course Description Most of us are familiar with spectacular images from space missions and telescopes, and we’ve heard terms like “galaxies” and “black holes” tossed about in popular films. What we can sometimes forget is how those abstract terms and images are actually connected to the sky we can see overhead every night (at least when it’s not cloudy!) This course aims to make those connections. It provides an introduction to the solar system, stars, the interstellar medium, the galaxy, and the universe. But it also teaches us how to look at the sky itself, to become familiar with the Moon, planets, and stars we can see for ourselves; where they are and how they move from hour to hour, season to season. It is also designed to force students to think like scientists – separating fact from theory, studying relationships between objects in search of patterns, and more. This course requires weekly engagement, including required weekly naked-eye observations of the sky; but is primarily asynchronous, which allows students to work around their school schedule. One-on-one synchronous teacher support is offered on demand, by appointment.
